Mr. Fred DeArmond
December 15, 1958

I plan to write an article on some phase of gardening. It may be on the idea of the therapeutic benefits to be derived from digging in the ground. It might be about Flowers and plants grown especially for their fragrance. It could be on the legend of either the dogwood tree, the redbud tree or the passion vine. I have also been toying with the theme “Dig, don’t diet.”

Three local experts whom I could interview are:

  1. Don Fellows
    Fellow’s Crafts
    2121 S. Waverly
    Springfield, Mo.

I feel that Mr. Fellows knows more about landscaping and gardening than anyone in this area. In spite of his brusque manner, we are good friends and I thoroughly enjoy talking with him. I have a great deal of admiration for him and feel that he could give me information not to be found elsewhere.

  1. The Hobby Nursery
    Republic, Mo.

Although I have never met the gentleman who owns it, I have been told that he is a retired professor from Iowa U. He has made a business of his hobby and loves it.

  1. Gus Wickman
    Wickman Gardens
    Springfield, Mo.

Mr. Wickman has always been so very willing to answer any and all questions that I, as an amateur gardener have asked him, I’m certain he would graciously give me specific information and answers in an interview.

Whether I ever receive a check for any article submitted for publication, two books which I plan to buy are:

  1. Roget’s Thesaurus of English Words and Phrases
  2. Bartlett’s Familiar Quotations
