MR. AND MRS. PAT
(Dedicated to Mr. and Mrs. Pat McClernon)

His name is Pat,
Hers is Ann.
The jolliest couple
In this land.

They’ve been married
Some thirty years,
They’ve stuck to-gether
Through smiles and tears.

Pat’s not Irish,
No, not much.
He’s jolly and kind,
Honest and just.

His wife is clever,
As clever can be.
She’s part German,
As one can see.

They live on a farm
Just outside of town.
They have friends
For miles around.

Pat’s a real man,
Big and tall,
He’s the strongest
Of them all.

His hands, so large
Make two of mine.
They’ve done lots of work
During their time.

Mrs. Pat’s worked
As hard as a man.
Doing her share
As much as she can.

She’s just as happy,
And gay as a lark,
Singing all day
From morn till dark.

They have a son,
A hired-boy, too.
They work as hard
As the rest of them do.

I’ve just known them
A year this fall.
May God bless them,
I love them all!
